Referee shows a white card for the second time in football history. Video

Fans attending a fifth-division match in Portugal witnessed an extremely rare football event, a white card. The video went viral online in a few hours.

A defender was injured during a counterattack. Instead of calmly beating the goalkeeper one-on-one and scoring a goal, the attacker suddenly turned around and kicked the ball out so that the medics could provide the necessary assistance to the victim.

The referee showed the forward a white card.

The hero then returned to the team player who was lying down to help him leave the field.

Fans, who gave the player a standing ovation for his actions, admired his kindness.

The white card was developed to show teams and players recognition of fair play and sportsmanship during the game.

It was an initiative of Portugal's national plan on sports ethics and was supported by the Portuguese Football Federation.

It was the second time in history that a football player was shown a white card. The first episode occurred in January in the Portuguese Women's Cup match between Sporting Lisbon and Benfica.

The main referee of the match, Catarina Campos, awarded the medical teams of both teams in this way.
