Preparing with her ex: Svitolina returns to British coach after the Olympics

Svitolina changed her coach

Famous Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina is preparing to play in her first tournament after the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Our compatriot will take part in a major tournament in Toronto, Canada, with a prize pool of $3.2 million, the winner of which will receive 1000 points to the world rankings.

The Big Tennis of Ukraine portal noted that Svitolina is preparing for the tournament matches with her former coach, British Andrew Bettles. He worked with the Ukrainian for five years until 2021. With him, Elina won the final tournament of 2018, and in September 2017, she reached the highest result in the world rankings, becoming the third racket on the planet.

It's unclear whether Bettles will coach Svitolina on a permanent basis or whether the Briton decided to just help his former ward. Before the Olympics, the Ukrainian tennis player announced that she had decided to stop working with Ramon Slater.

In Toronto, Elina will start in the first round with a match against Shelby Rogers of the United States, against whom Svitolina has won all four matches. Marta Kostiuk, Angelina Kalinina, Lesia Tsurenko and Diana Yastremska will also play in Canada.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, at the Olympic Games in Paris, Elina Svitolina reached the 1/8 finals, where she dramatically lost to Barbora Krejcikova from the Czech Republic.
