Old 2 kopeck can be sold for over UAH 4000: how to recognize an expensive one
Ukrainians can sell some coins for a lot. The fact is that due to their peculiarities, they are highly valued by collectors. So much so that they are willing to pay thousands of hryvnias for them.
For example, 2 kopeck of 1994 (10 k.) AA variety can be sold, according to the experts of the Monety-yahidky resource, at a price of 4500 UAH. This coin can be recognized by the wide edge of the obverse (front side).
"When the obverse of the coin was minted, the stamp from the 1994 10 kopeck was used. The wide edge is due to the fact that the diameter of the 10 kopeck stamps is smaller than that of the 2 kopecks. Numismatists often call the 2 (10 k.) AA variety a mix-up," experts explain.
2 kopeck of 1996 of the 1AA variety made of aluminum are also valued. They can be sold for 800-1000 UAH. And the same coins, but those made of non-magnetic steel, can be sold for UAH 1500-1700.
"The 2 kopeck of 1996 is a coin that was part of the NBU's collection set. Initially, about 2,000 copies were minted from stainless steel, but the NBU did not allow these coins to be included in the set. After that, aluminum coins were minted to complete the sets. The 1996 2 kopeks are not only found in sets, they have been repeatedly found in circulation," numismatists say.
For 2 kopeck of 2003, you can get from 1800 UAH to 5000 UAH. Numismatists explain that such coins are rare: they were minted in a small run for the NBU's annual set.
"However, the set was never released. And the coins most likely got into circulation," the experts say.
