Every year, more and more car models appear that promise better fuel economy, more technology, and safety. However, some of them, unfortunately, do not live up to expectations, so it is better to avoid them.
Buying a car can have a significant impact on your budget, so you need to choose not only technologically advanced and beautiful, but also reliable models that will serve you for many years. JD Power has shared a selection of cars that are definitely not worth spending money on in 2024.
Many drivers choose a car based solely on the value for money. However, one of the most important factors to consider is reliability and durability.
Buying a cheap car can save you money, but it can cost you a lot more nerves and money later on with numerous repairs.
The 2023 U.S. Vehicle Reliability Study noted that drivers experience an average of 186 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100).
It examines various aspects of vehicle performance, including: quality; component replacement; subjective appeal (comfort, appearance, etc.) and helps car manufacturers design and manufacture better cars that will stand the test of time.
The latest study was conducted from August to November 2023. Its results are based on the responses of 30,595 owners of 2021 cars after three years of ownership.
As a result, the averagePP100 score in 2024 is 190. This indicates that the average quality of vehicles has deteriorated.
The brands with the most problems, according to JD Power's ranking:
- Chrysler - 310 PP100;
- Audi - 275 PP100;
- Land Rover - 268 PP100;
- Volkswagen - 267 PP100;
- Lincoln - 251 PP100;
- Volvo - 245 PP100;
- Ford - 239 PP100;
- Infiniti - 219 PP100;
- Mercedes-Benz - 218 PP100;
- Acura - 216 PP100.
