Not just flowers: what to plant in the garden in August
For gardeners, August is a time of harvesting. Vegetables, fruits, berries - everything ripens at about the same time.
But it's still summer outside and it's a shame to leave the beds empty until the cold weather. Therefore, read about what can be planted at the end of the season in the OBOZ.UA article.
In August, you can still do a lot of things in the garden. This is the time for planting new plants, caring for the ones already grown and preparing the site for the fall season.
However, don't forget to focus on the weather conditions. If September is predicted to be warm, then you can plant almost anything. And if the autumn cold comes as planned, then choose plants with a short ripening period.
Planting flowers
August is a great time to plant perennial flowers and ornamental plants to decorate your garden. Warm soil and sunny weather will provide optimal conditions for growth. For example, bulbous plants such as daffodils and hyacinths can be planted now. You can also work with peonies, irises, daisies, lilies, and garden bells.
If you have a greenhouse, you can safely plant plants such as roses, chrysanthemums, asters, and crocuses. They will feel great until the first frost. But don't forget to water and ventilate the room, especially if it's hot outside.
Greenery
In August, you can plant any herbs, such as dill, parsley, basil, spinach, onions, etc. They ripen quickly and will allow you to get a fresh harvest several times.
Vegetables
The choice of vegetables for planting depends on the climatic conditions of your region, soil composition, and availability of sunlight. If we talk about the list of plants that are most likely to be planted in August, it is as follows:
- Beans;
- Turnip
- Cucumber
- Radish
- Daikon;
- Peas.
However, some gardeners, taking into account the forecasts of weather forecasters, even sometimes plant all the vegetables in the second round in August and manage to get a generous harvest.
