No one wants to work: Ukrainian woman tells about the shortage of educators and teachers in Austrian educational institutions
In Austria, teachers and educators do not want to work in educational institutions because of the difficult conditions and low salaries. In this regard, school teachers may ask parents to come to class to read with their children, for example.
Ukrainian Liudmyla Kryzhanovska, who worked as a kindergarten teacher in Austria, told OBOZ.UA in an exclusive interview. According to her, teachers receive from three thousand euros (128,841 hryvnias), depending on their length of service, but in fact it is two thousand euros (85,894 hryvnias) net. However, these funds are not enough.
"There is a real shortage of teachers and educators in Austria. Last year, schoolchildren had a Letter Day once a week, and sometimes more often. Then the teacher asked parents to come to school for two hours if they had time to read with their children," Kryzhanovska says.
"Renting an apartment costs at least 1000 euros (42,947 hryvnias). If you still have children and want them to attend various clubs, this is not enough money," she adds.
Problems also arise in kindergartens, where assistant teachers have to take care of a group of preschoolers on their own if the teacher needs to clean something or wash the dishes. The Ukrainian woman says that there are 12-15 children in the younger group, and up to 25 in the older ones. However, there are few people willing to work in the center. Moreover, every year teachers go out to the streets to demonstrate for higher wages and better working conditions.
According to the woman, in Austria, children from 5 to 6 years old are required to attend preschool. However, they are currently discussing the possibility of extending this year for another year, because many migrants face the fact that boys and girls are not ready for school because they do not know German.
