No clouding and no crystallization: the best method of storing honey has been named
Clear honey is known for its golden hue and liquid texture, but this quickly disappears when the product crystallizes.
This is one of the most common reasons why people throw away perfectly good honey, but it can be easily avoided with a simple storage method, OBOZ.UA writes.
Perhaps the most important factor that affects this is temperature, but it is also the most difficult to control.
According to experts, crystallization occurs much faster at lower temperatures, especially when it drops below 10C. Therefore, they advise against storing honey in a dark, cool basement or refrigerator.
To preserve your liquid honey, the best storage temperature is room temperature, around 10-21C. A cool, dry cupboard will probably be the ideal place for this.
Also, pay attention to what you store your honey in. Plastic is more porous than glass and is more prone to moisture penetration, which promotes crystallization.
Glass containers will better protect honey from moisture if the lid is tightly closed.
If you find that your honey has already crystallized, you do not need to throw it away and replace it. There is nothing wrong with crystallized honey, it can always be melted.
