Ukrainian railway stations will once again lease business premises. The goal is to provide train stations with more food courts, bookstores, pharmacies, and other service providers. Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) is resuming the relevant auctions after more than a year's break.

This is stated in the message of UZ. It is noted that the auctions were restored due to the government's decision to amend the rules for managing Ukrzaliznytsia's property.

"This will help to quickly unblock the lease of space and turn the country's railway stations into modern spaces filled with the services passengers need. Our goal is to have food courts, cafes, bookstores, pharmacies, financial zones, flower shops, and much more at the country's railway stations," the company said.

It is noted that the first auction will take place in the coming weeks. During the auction, it is planned to rent out space at Kyiv Central Station for:

  • a bookstore (102 sq. m.);
  • a mini-bank branch (35 square meters).

In addition, auctions are planned to lease space for the placement of equipment for mobile operators. All auctions will be held in the Prozorro.Sale system.

These are not the only recent changes in the company. Earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia finally switched to a new ticketing website. Thus, Ukrainians will no longer be able to buy tickets on the old website booking-old.uz.gov.ua. Currently, Ukrainians can buy train tickets on the new website of Ukrzaliznytsia. It can be found here.

In addition, a European gauge railway is planned to be laid from Romania's Suceava to Ukraine's Chernivtsi. It should connect cities in Romania, Ukraine, Moldova, and Poland. Construction work is expected to begin in 2025.
