Never store mushrooms like this: the biggest mistake named
Mushrooms are a staple in many dishes and an extremely nutritious ingredient that adds flavor and texture to a variety of dishes.
However, one common and simple mistake that some people make before putting mushrooms in the fridge can cause them to spoil too quickly. Mushrooms are incredibly delicate due to their high water content, which makes proper storage essential for their freshness, OBOZ.UA writes.
One of the most common mistakes is to leave them in the plastic packaging they come in, as this retains moisture and accelerates spoilage.
Instead, moving them into a paper bag lined with a kitchen towel allows for better airflow and absorbs excess moisture, significantly extending their shelf life.
Storing whole mushrooms in the refrigerator can extend their shelf life by up to seven days. Sliced mushrooms, on the other hand, usually last only one or two days.
Experts also warn that mushrooms should not be washed before putting them in the refrigerator. Pre-washing can accelerate their spoilage, but if your mushrooms start to soften, don't throw them away just yet.
They are still ideal for cooking dishes such as risotto, stir-fries, and soups.
