Never cook potatoes like this: mistakes everyone makes
It would seem that every housewife knows how to cook potatoes properly. But even with such a simple vegetable, problems often arise. The product is not as tasty and attractive as it should be.
Chef Sylvia Graf Carrethers and culinary expert George Durand shared their effective tips for cooking potatoes. There are several important nuances.
Do not store potatoes in the refrigerator
If you often store potatoes in the refrigerator, you should give up this habit. This is because potato starch turns into sugar. As a result, the taste of the product will deteriorate. It is best to put the vegetable in the pantry, for example. In such a room, the fruit will remain fresh for a long time.
Do not put potatoes in boiling water
If you want to boil potatoes, never put them in boiling water. Due to their high starch content, potatoes in boiling water will cook unevenly. Pour cold water over the cut pieces before placing them on the stove.
Do not overheat the oven
It is very important to take your time when baking potatoes. Do not set the temperature too high, as you risk drying out the product. It will definitely not taste good. The temperature should be slightly above average.
Don't stir the mashed potatoes too much
After you have mashed the potatoes, do not stir them with a spoon many times. The starch will break apart and the dish will become rubbery.
Don't forget to soak the potatoes
To make the baked potatoes crispy and golden, soak them in cold water for a while. This action will help to extract excess starch.
