NASA discovered mysterious green spots on Mars that could be signs of alien life
NASA's Perseverance rover, which has been exploring the Red Planet for almost four years, has come across an interesting discovery. In a region called the Serpentine Rapids, the robot discovered mysterious green spots that could be signs of alien life.
After scraping off the top layer of regolith on a red rock called "Wallace Butte," the rover found many different colors – white, black, and green. Will the name "Red Planet" have to be changed to "Multicolored", asks TheSun.
"One of the biggest surprises for the rover team was the presence of grayish-green spots in the abrasion area, which consist of dark cores with fuzzy light green edges," NASA said.
Green spots can also be found on the Earth's "red beds" – areas of sediment where water containing iron has passed through a filter and eventually hardened into stone. However, on our planet, microbes are usually involved in this process, scientists say.
Green spots can also occur when organic matter, such as microbial life, dies and decomposes. Therefore, NASA's finding indicates a possible trace of ancient alien life.
Scientists note that we shouldn't jump to conclusions, because the combination of sulfur and iron can also cause these "fuzzy, light green circles."
According to NASA, the composition of these green Martian rocks "will remain a mystery" until human explorers can reach Mars in the 2030s.
