In Ukraine, 74% of companies are experiencing a shortage of staff, and construction companies are already 30-40% short of specialists. In this regard, they are expected to start attracting migrants, primarily from Asia and Africa. They are willing to work for even less money than Ukrainians.

This was reported by Forbes. It is noted that:

  • According to the Confederation of Employers of Ukraine, the number of officially registered workers in the construction sector has decreased by 25.4% over 2 years, to almost 300 thousand people.
  • According to Yevhen Favorov, Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Association of Developers, at some point some companies lost up to half of their staff.

The heads of construction companies see a way out of the situation in attracting labor migrants from other countries. In particular, from:

  • Pakistan
  • Nepal
  • India
  • Bangladesh
  • Philippines
  • African countries
  • Moldova
  • Uzbekistan
  • Azerbaijan

It is emphasized that companies tend to attract foreign workers also because they are not subject to mobilization. This has become one of the reasons for the shortage of personnel.

In addition, foreigners are willing to work for less money than Ukrainians. Thus, it is noted that:

  • Salaries of handymen, car repairmen, electric welders, bricklayers, loaders, and parking lot attendants start at $450 per month.
  • Experienced bricklayers - from $650.
  • At the same time, such Ukrainian specialists usually receive from $900, and in the current conditions, they claim more.

Moreover, it is stated that it is more profitable for employers to hire foreigners even taking into account the fact that they should take care of their official employment and provide them with housing. And also that:

  • A 1-year permit for one person costs a little over 15 thousand UAH.
  • For 2 years - about 25 thousand.

However, even with these costs, the report summarizes that the foreign labor remains 10-20% cheaper than that of Ukrainians.
