Lomachenko wins a championship fight by knockout. Video

Ukrainian boxer Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) defeated Australian George Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs) to win the vacant world title according to the International Boxing Federation (IBF). The fight ended with a knockout by the 36-year-old native of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi in the 11th round.

The first round began in a kind of reconnaissance, where the Ukrainian took the center of the ring. Both boxers did not force the action, mostly just "dancing" in front of each other, and only occasionally throwing punches.

In the second round, the dynamics of the fight did not change. It still looked more like a chess game. Vasyl looked more active, and towards the end of the round he managed to hit Kambosos' head.

Gradually, the advantage of our compatriot became more and more obvious. Such passivity of the Australian fighter caused dissatisfaction of the fans, who started to buzz several times. In the last seconds, the boxers got involved in a fight that was barely stopped by the referee.

Lomachenko threw more punches and worked as the first number, demonstrating his signature moves on his feet when he bounced to the side after a punch. In the last minute of the 4th round,  Kambosos received several punches to the head, which visibly affected him.

The Australian boxer's corner realized that they were losing and demanded that their ward put more pressure, more punches and stop being a defending side all the time.

Vasyl was attacking more and more powerfully, driving his opponent under the ropes. 10 seconds before the end of the 5th round, George, having missed a hook, staggered, almost touching the ring with his hand, but the referee showed that there was no knockdown.

At the equator of the fight, Lomachenko even allowed himself to lower his hands, waiting for the moment to strike.

In the 7th round, Kambosos tried to seize the initiative, but it all ended with a fall to the ring and again without a knockdown. George tried to follow his trainer's instructions and hit Vasyl's body, but it didn't do much damage. At the same time, the Australian representative continued to miss punches to the head, being pressed against the ropes.

Towards the end of the fight, Kambosos had a cut over his right eye. George was catching more and more air with his punches, while the Ukrainian fighter's offense was causing noticeable damage. Vasyl was excellent on the feet, showing his trademark style: punch - retreat, punch - retreat.

The end of the fight did not bring a breakthrough. Lomachenko was more accurate and in the middle of the 11th round he hit the Australian right in the liver. He fell on his knee, and the referee counted the knockdown. However, the fight did not last long. In a few seconds, Vasyl knocked out his opponent.

We remind you that in his last fight on May 21, Lomachenko lost to WBC, IBF, WBA Super, WBO titles holder Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) and failed to become an absolute champion. The lightweight fight in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena lasted all 12 rounds and ended with a unanimous decision of 116-112, 115-113, 115-113.
