Like a small iPad: Apple plans to release a HomePod with screen
One of the technology segment where Apple is lagging behind is smart home one. And apparently, it plans to rectify this situation this year.
Rumors about this were confirmed by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who collects and publishes insider information about the tech giant's new products. In his new article, he revealed that in 2025, Apple intends to release a device that will become a hub for its own smart home.
Gurman called the upcoming product "the most significant new Apple product coming in 2025." He also described what the gadget is likely to look like.
According to the journalist, the device will work as a smaller and cheaper iPad tablet. Its features will allow users to control household appliances, communicate on FaceTime, and perform other tasks.
At the same time, Gurman noted that the technology behind HomePod will not be something truly innovative. In fact, it will be the same tablet equipped with an approximately 7-inch screen. It will run the homeOS operating system. On the main screen, such a device will have certain widgets necessary to control smart home functions.
The hub will be based on the Siri voice assistant, Apple Intelligence, and HomeKit. The device will also be able to act as a home security system. It will be able to show video from home surveillance cameras.
According to Gurman, this year's release will be the initial version of the Apple hub. In a few years, he predicts a significant upgrade of both the device and its functionality. Probably, the improved model will include a robotic limb that will allow the screen to follow the user around the room.
