Japanese lunar lander takes impressive photo of the most remote place on Earth

The lunar lander of the Japanese company ispace has captured a stunning image of the most remote place on Earth. The Resilience spacecraft, which was launched on January 15 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket together with the Blue Ghost Firefly Aerospace lander, is now orbiting our planet.

The Japanese spacecraft is gradually raising its orbit to eventually set its trajectory to the Moon. Due to the energy-efficient path chosen by Resilience, it will attempt to land on Mare Frigoris (the "Cold Sea") in the northern hemisphere of the Earth's satellite in about four months, Space.com writes.

The ispace company reported that Resilience has captured an incredible image of our home planet from a unique perspective, showing the most remote part of the Earth.

"Looking back at Earth, the lander, which was about 10,000 kilometers away from our Blue Marble, captured Nemo's point. This is the most remote place on our planet, about 2,688 kilometers from the nearest land," ispace said in a post on the social network X.

According to ispace scientists, Resilience is in excellent condition. Its stability is based on the Hakuto-R landing platform, which is powered by solar panels.

This vehicle is similar to the first lander, which made an unsuccessful attempt to land on the Moon in April 2023. However, Resilience has updated software to overcome sensor problems, the developers emphasize.

The Japanese module carries several commercial and scientific payloads, as well as a microrover called Tenacious. The compact mobile spacecraft weighing 5 kilograms will collect samples with a small spatula and analyze them with a camera, experts say.
