It is a magnet for applicants: Vynnytskyi names the city that received a quarter of all applicants in Ukraine in 2024

A quarter of Ukrainian university entrants in 2024 became students of higher education institutions located in Kyiv. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vynnytskyi.

According to the official, the capital is a magnet for applicants. The official said this in an interview with LB.ua.

"If we talk about Kyiv, it is a huge magnet. This year's admission campaign showed that a quarter of applicants entered Kyiv universities. A lot needs to be changed here, but Kyiv, one way or another, has a certain weight and a certain order in its hierarchy," said the Deputy Minister of Education.

As a reminder, in 2024, more than 187 thousand applicants were enrolled in higher education institutions on a state-funded and contract basis. This is 80 thousand less than last year when the number was 267 thousand. More than 217 thousand applicants applied for admission to universities in 2024.

At the same time, 6,284 applicants who received an offer for a state-funded place refused free education. Almost one in four of them – 1442 applicants – did not enter Ukrainian universities.

Almost 77% of applicants who refused to study on a state-funded basis decided to enroll in other universities on a contract basis. Many of them took advantage of a state grant or enrolled in the universities they really wanted.
