iOS 18 to finally feature voice memo transcription: how it will work
The new operating system for Apple smartphones, iOS 18, will have the long-awaited voice memo transcription feature. You won't have to install any third-party software to do this anymore.
But how will this feature work? Tom's Guide journalists tried it themselves to find out. According to them, the new transcription function for the recording program will not only transcribe voice notes but will also have no time limit on how long a recording can last. The only difficulty in using this feature is finding it. And here's how to do it.
How to find the transcription feature in iOS 18
Go to the recorder app and find the audio file you want to transcribe. First, tap the three dots in the upper right corner to open a small submenu. One of its options will be View Transcript. Selecting it will take you to a new window where you can see the full decryption.
An alternative way
However, this is not the only way to access the decrypted records. Select the Edit Recording option from the same submenu. Then click the bubble with the quotation marks in the lower left corner of the screen.
How to edit a voice recording
In the transcript you receive, you can replace parts of the text. To do this, press the big red Replace button at the bottom of the screen and start speaking. The transcript will start changing in real time. However, in this case, everything in the transcript file will be replaced from the point where you started editing. Therefore, there may be inaccuracies.
It is already known that this feature is available in the iOS 18 beta and will not rely on Apple Intelligence. This means that it will be available on every iPhone model that supports the update.
