If the handle on a plastic window is jammed: how to repair it
Plastic windows are quite reliable structures that guarantee noise and heat insulation. However, even high-quality materials fail over time, and the most common problem with plastic windows is broken handles.
If the handle is jammed, the main thing is not to start pulling it out, otherwise you risk breaking the structure. Read the OBOZREVATEL article on how to repair a handle on a plastic window if it is jammed.
Of course, the best way out is to contact a specialist who will find out the cause of the breakdown and repair the mechanism. However, if you need to act quickly, you can try to solve the problem yourself.
Situation 1: The handle turns, but the window does not open
It often happens that the window handle turns in different directions, but the window is stuck in place. This is probably due to broken fittings. The mechanism that fixes the metal pin could be out of order - not the easiest case, in which case you just need to buy a new handle. Or the cause of the breakdown may be in the gearbox - in this case, you need to call a specialist.
Situation 2: the window does not open, the handle does not turn
A rather unpleasant situation - the handle is jammed in the "closed" position, and it does not want to turn. Probably, there is a breakdown of the tying mechanism or locking mechanism. It's better not to take any chances and call a repairman, because you'll have to pull out the sashes to fix the window, and it's quite difficult to do it yourself.
Situation 3: the window does not open for ventilation
The reason is loose hinges, which caused the sashes to sag. In this case, the window opens, but clings to the frame with a characteristic crackle or click. The hinges need to be adjusted.
Situation 4: the window does not close completely
If the window does not close all the way, it is likely that the lock is jammed in it - this is a spring-loaded mechanism located on the inner end of the active sash. Try closing the window, pressing the lock and turning the handle. If the mechanism does not get into the appropriate part, you will have to adjust the hinges.
The locking system may be loose - in this case, you need to slightly press the plate from the outside of the window. But if the spring is broken, you need to change the glass unit.
Situation 5: the window is stuck in the ventilation mode
If the plastic window is stuck in the "ventilation" mode, the "scissors" are probably jammed. You need to clean everything from the problem area and lubricate the mechanism.
Tilt-and-turn models can get stuck in two positions at the same time. A situation arises when the sash is held on one hinge and seems to be about to come off. In fact, this is not the case - it is held by scissors. To solve the problem, press the upper part of the sash to the frame, press the lock on the handle side, turn the handle up to the end, press the sash, turn the handle to the horizontal position and close the window.
