How to save a spathiphyllum whose leaves are turning brown: simple tips
The contrast of bright green foliage and snow-white flowers, as well as fairly simple care and unpretentiousness, make spathiphyllums a favorite houseplant for many. However, even such a resistant flower can suffer from leaf browning.
OBOZ.UA found out what could be the reason for this and how to solve the problem. In short, this behavior may indicate that the plant needs to be corrected.
Spathiphyllums are tropical perennials that can delight with flowering for many years. But you will have to make sure that the plant receives the right amount of water and light and does not freeze in drafts.
This flower feels best at an average temperature of 12 to 24 degrees. It is better to provide it with a humid environment that mimics its natural environment.
Discoloration, as well as brown spots on the leaves, is a sure sign that your spathiphyllum is not receiving proper conditions. Start by inspecting the place where it is standing. If it's near a working radiator or other heat source, the air is likely too dry for the plant. In this case, place the pot on a tray with pebbles filled with water. The water should not reach the drainage hole in the pot. The liquid will slowly evaporate and the flower will feel better.
But do not rush to repot the plant if it starts to feel bad during the cold months. This will be too much stress for it. Wait until spring, when the spathiphyllum starts to grow actively – this will allow it to recover from any changes faster and easier.
Once the spathiphyllum has recovered, it will need proper care, including an appropriate watering schedule. Simply check the soil moisture in the pot with your finger every few days and add water to the soil as needed. Try not to overwater the flower in winter, as this can cause root rot.
Also, make sure that the spathiphyllum pot is not in the path of cold air. Cold and drafts are much worse for the flower than even extreme heat, and it can die from it. Keep your "female happiness" in a place where the plant will receive bright, indirect sunlight. Or create the necessary conditions with a lamp.
