How to prepare delicious Christmas kutia: a detailed recipe for a traditional Ukrainian dish
Kutia is the main dish on the Christmas table. Although in ancient times it was cooked almost every day, nowadays kutia is usually cooked only three times a year: on Christmas, St. Basil's Day, and Epiphany. The main symbolic meaning is to honor ancestors.
That is why it is extremely important that this traditional dish turns out delicious for everyone to enjoy. Food blogger Maria Makarchuk shared how to make kutia on Instagram.
Ingredients
- wheat - 400 g
- water - 1 liter
- poppy seeds - 150 g + water to cover
- nuts - 200 g
- raisins - 200 g
- honey - 2 tbsp
The method of preparation
1. Rinse the wheat thoroughly in cold water and leave to swell for 2-3 hours.
2. Boil for 30 minutes, covering the grains with water in a ratio of 1:3.
3. Pour water over the poppy seeds and boil until the water has completely evaporated.
4. Beat with a blender.
5. Pour boiling water over the raisins.
6. Fry the nuts until they have a characteristic smell.
7. Combine the wheat with honey and mix thoroughly.
8. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix again.
