Baking powder is a substance used during cooking to make a product loose. As a rule, it is used to prepare some types of dough and to obtain products with a porous structure.

You can also use baking soda slaked with vinegar instead of baking powder, but this mixture is not suitable for all dishes, while baking powder is almost universal. Food blogger Irina Denisenko shared how to make baking powder at home on Instagram.

Ingredients

  • Citric acid
  • Soda
  • Starch
  • Flour

Method of preparation

1. Grind the citric acid in a coffee grinder until powdered.

2. Add baking soda, starch, and flour to it.

3. Mix thoroughly and transfer to a jar with a lid.

4. Mix well again.

5. Store in a dark, dry place.

Baking powder should only be added to doughs that do not contain acidic ingredients. It is best suited for making biscuits and cookies.
