How to make an orchid bloom more often and more magnificently: the golden rule
Proper watering of an orchid is the main trick in caring for this houseplant. If you master it, you can make this beauty bloom on your windowsill for several months a year.
Experts from Interia Kobieta found out how to properly moisturize an orchid. Although you can add water to its substrate in different ways, they still called the immersion method the best.
The principle of this method is simple: prepare a large bowl or bucket, and fill it with soft, settled, or filtered water at room temperature. Leave some free space so that the water does not spill out when the flower pot is placed in the bowl.
When everything is ready, place the orchid in a container of water. The flower should stay right in the pot. Leave the plant for 30 minutes. During this time, the lump of substrate will absorb as much water as it needs. Then remove the orchid and place it in the bathtub so that the excess moisture can drain away. However, be sure to make sure in advance that the pot has suitable drainage holes for this.
There is a lot of debate online about how often an orchid should be watered. Some believe that the optimal time is once a week in summer and every two weeks in winter. In general, this is a good schedule, but you can deviate from it depending on the circumstances. Look at the roots of your potted flower. If they have brightened and turned silver, this is a sign that they need water. If they are green, you don't need to water the plant yet.
However, it is not only watering that gives orchids the moisture they need. It is also important to spray the flowers periodically. Under normal circumstances, the procedure can be carried out every few days. However, in summer, it is worth increasing the frequency and spraying the leaves and aerial roots once a day. This will create conditions for them that are similar to natural ones. Increasing the frequency of sprinkling is also justified during the heating season, when the humidity drops sharply.
