How to get rid of mold and odor in the washing machine: two natural remedies
A washing machine can become dirty and smelly due to the accumulation of detergent, fabric softener, dirt, and bacteria, but there is an easy way to get rid of it all.
It turns out that cleaning the washing machine seal is actually very simple – and you don't need aggressive chemicals like bleach, OBOZ.UA writes.
White vinegar and baking soda – or bicarbonate of soda – can melt mold with the help of a key item: a cloth napkin that absorbs moisture.
Vinegar and baking soda work together as a powerful cleaning duo thanks to a chemical reaction that helps break down dirt, grime, and stains.
The bubbling caused by this reaction loosens stuck-on debris. Vinegar cuts through grease while baking soda provides a mild cleansing action. What's more, baking soda can neutralize odors, and vinegar helps kill the bacteria that cause the odor.
How to clean the washing machine seal
What you will need:
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
- Measuring jug or bowl
- A napkin
Take a measuring pitcher or bowl and add about a tablespoon of baking soda, then pour in some white vinegar to create a moist mixture.
Then take a napkin and dip it in the mixture. After it is well soaked, place it on the spot where there is a lot of mold or mildew on the washing machine seal. If there is a lot of mold, you may need to soak a few wipes.
The trick is to stick the wipes in any possible crevices and let the mixture work for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, remove the wipes and start cleaning the black spots. After that, take a new wipe, and moisten.
Finally, take a fresh cloth, moisten it with a small amount of the mixture, and put it in the drum of the washing machine. Run the "clean" or "fast" cycle.
