However, for those who may have neglected their washing machines for an extended period, experts noted that some other solution may be necessary.

To minimize the occurrence of mold returning as much as possible, open the washing machine door after each wash cycle to allow air to circulate and dry the drum, door, and rubber gasket.

Remove wet laundry from the washing machine immediately after the cycle is complete. Leaving damp laundry in the machine for a long time can create a humid environment where mold likes to thrive.

It is also worth running an empty hot water cycle in your washing machine, as this will help destroy existing mold spores, and the addition of vinegar prevents the formation of limescale.
