How to get rid of armpit stains on clothes: a life-saving hack
It's been a hot summer, and that might not be good for your delicate summer clothes. Even the strongest deodorant can't prevent sweat stains on clothes, especially underarms, which not every wash can handle.
The persistence of these unpleasant marks is explained by the fact that they consist not only of sweat. The ugly yellow or whitish coating on the fabric is caused by the reaction of fats and proteins in sweat with aluminum and zirconium in the antiperspirant, which then stain the fabric. The longer they remain on the fabric and are absorbed into the fibers, the harder it is to remove them. But experts say there is a way out. OBOZ.UA asked them about their life hacks.
However, the appearance of stains is not the only problem that occurs due to sweat. It can also cause a persistent odor. It is especially pronounced in people who are often stressed. Sweat that appears because of the heat is 99% water and simply dries out. But under stress, our body secretes fluid that contains up to 20% of fats and proteins, which, when broken down, cause odor. That is why experts advise washing clothes immediately after a stressful day.
So, to remove sweat stains and fight odors, you'll need warm water, a high-quality detergent, a little vinegar, and fabric softener. And don't forget a comfortable soaking basin.
Start by rinsing your clothes in warm water to dilute the stain. Then pretreat it with a mixture of liquid laundry detergent and a small amount of distilled white vinegar. Yellow stains in the armpits can be cleaned well with a mild acid and vinegar is a great option. Pour a little of the mixture on the stain, gently rub the stained cloth and leave it on for 20 minutes. Make sure you don't use pure vinegar, especially on artificial silk fabrics. It can damage some fibers.
If the stain still doesn't come out, you'll need a stronger product. Prepare a mixture of fabric softener and water in a ratio of 1 to 10. Soak the clothes in it for 20 minutes and stir the contents of the basin every 5 minutes. Then wash the clothes in the machine. When you take them out of the drum, check to see if the stain has disappeared. If not, repeat the treatment before the item dries.
You can also try to prevent underarm stains. First of all, treat your clothes as soon as possible - don't leave sweat stains on the fabric. Also try switching to a deodorant that does not contain aluminum. And be sure to use only high-quality detergents.
