How to germinate seeds quickly: an easy way with sawdust

Alina MilsentNews

Seed germination is an important step in growing seedlings. One of the most effective methods is to use sawdust, which creates optimal conditions for the rapid emergence of seedlings. Sawdust retains water well, which contributes to uniform moistening of the seeds. In addition, this material provides sufficient air circulation and minimizes the risk of fungal diseases.

Sawdust creates ideal conditions for seed germination and further development of seedlings, ensuring their easy transplantation into the soil. OBOZ.UA tells in detail about one of the easiest ways to grow seedlings.

The main advantages of sawdust

  • Sawdust is a valuable material for gardeners and vegetable growers because it can be used for various purposes, including seed germination.
  • Sawdust retains moisture, gradually releasing it to the seeds, which contributes to uniform germination.
  • The material is not compacted, reducing the risk of fungal diseases.
  • Fresh sawdust contains virtually no harmful microorganisms, making it safe for germination.

How to use sawdust

  1. You need to take a deep container, fill it with sawdust and pour boiling water to disinfect it.
  2. When the water has cooled slightly, you should gently squeeze out the mass, getting rid of excess liquid.
  3. After the sawdust has cooled completely, spread it evenly with a layer of about 4-6 cm and put the seeds on the surface. Sprinkle the seeds with sawdust on top, with a layer of about 2 cm.
  4. The last step is to cover the container with a lid or film. It should be stored in a warm place.

Useful tips

Sawdust is a good material for mulching the soil around plants. It helps to retain moisture, prevents weed growth, and protects the roots from overheating in summer and frost in winter.

This material can also be used to insulate beds and greenhouses.

Use only healthy sawdust without signs of rot or mold.
