How to freeze sea buckthorn correctly and whether to add sugar: let's figure it out
Sea buckthorn is an inexhaustible source of vitamins and nutrients that are so necessary for the body throughout the year, especially in winter. It is considered one of the healthiest berries growing in Ukraine. Sea buckthorn is also extremely tasty and can be used to make many interesting desserts or drinks.
That is why it is very important to have sea buckthorn at home all year round. This can be achieved if you know how to preserve the berries. FoodOboz has figured out how to freeze sea buckthorn so that it retains its benefits.
Freezing without sugar
1. We carefully sort through the harvest. Throw away unripe and spoiled berries, and free the good ones from the garbage.
2. Put the berries in a deep container and cover with water. Rinse thoroughly, changing the water several times.
3. Put the washed berries in a single layer on paper towels and let them dry completely.
4. Next, you need to shock freeze the sea buckthorn. Place the berries on a flat surface covered with parchment and put them in a freezer at -20 degrees. Leave them for several hours.
5. Put the frozen berries in airtight bags or containers and store them in the freezer away from foods that have a specific odor.
Freezing with sugar
You can freeze sea buckthorn with sugar if you like to enjoy a delicious and aromatic tea made from this berry, or for making various desserts.
1. Repeat the first three steps from the previous list.
2. Turn the sea buckthorn into a puree using a blender or sieve.
3. Add sugar. Adjust the amount to your own taste.
4. Pour the mixture into small containers or ice cube trays and freeze.
Frozen sea buckthorn can be stored in the freezer for 9-10 months, regardless of whether sugar was used for its preparation.
