A Russian "death plane" was spotted over central Ukraine, but there is a nuance. Photo
On Monday, December 2, a Russian passenger plane IL-62 of the "Aeroflot" company was allegedly spotted in the air over Ukraine. It is RA-86561, one of the few Russian "death planes."
This plane was spotted in the Flightradar24 service by Telegraph journalists. According to them, the plane "flew almost to Dnipro," and this is the third such case in the last few days.
"However, the route data is not available, so it is not known for certain where the plane was coming from and where it was going. However, the plane probably crossed the border with Ukraine and entered the closed airspace of the state. The Russian plane flew almost to Dnipro from the east," the publication notes and shows screenshots of the Flightradar24 map.
The publication suggests that no flight took place that day and that it was only "a portal failure because air defense over Ukraine shoots down any air targets."
As of now, RA-86561 has not been recorded in the air at all.
The Il-62 is in service with Russia. It is called the "plane of death" not because of its service in the armed forces of the occupiers. It's just that most airplane crashes involving Soviet and Russian planes have been caused by the Il-62, the publication claims.
"All Russian passenger companies have now abandoned this aircraft, but it has been adopted by the Russian Air Force. As of 2024, Russia has 8 operational aircraft, and more than 150 have been written off and dismantled for scrap. The total number of airplane crashes involving the Il-62 is approximately 18," Telegraph writes.
The Il-18 is the leader in the number of accidents among the "Ilyushin" airplanes. The Il-76 also had more crashes than the 62nd model. The Il-62 was once considered so reliable that it was the "number one aircraft" in Soviet times.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, on November 29, a Russian passenger plane was also spotted over the territory of Ukraine, which "flew almost to Dnipro." It was a Boeing 738 aircraft belonging to the Russian airline "Aeroflot." It took off from Istanbul and was supposed to be heading to Moscow.
