How to cut a sandwich: the arguments of scientists will surprise you
Most people cut a sandwich diagonally to create two identical triangles that can be easily eaten without getting dirty. According to scientists, this method of dividing the dish is much better than the rectangular option.
To confirm the hypothesis, the scientists cite several arguments, BBC Science Focus writes. The first is that the triangular shape provides faster access to the center of the sandwich, and the second is that it is more convenient to eat.
By cutting a rectangular sandwich diagonally, you get two identical halves. Take the first couple of bites along the edges of the sandwich, eating the 45° corners with the crust. This will give you quick access to the center of the dish, where most of the filling is usually placed. According to the researchers, depending on the size of the sandwich, you may end up with another small triangle formed by the soft part of the bread and the filling.
Unlike the characters in entertaining cartoons, people try to eat any food so that there are no traces of sauces or jams on their faces. So to stay clean while eating, scientists advise dividing the sandwich into two triangles. In this way, the less liquid elements of your sandwich will be moderately distributed over the entire plane, and will not get you dirty after each bite.
