How to bring indoor flowers back to life: an effective fertilizer that's easy to make
Even unpretentious indoor plants need periodic fertilization. Organic fertilizers can be the best option. For example, walnuts are not only a tasty and nutritious addition to a variety of dishes, but also an effective means of stimulating plant growth.
Experts advise not to throw away walnut shells, but to prepare a fertilizer from them. This will be useful for stimulating the flowering of the orchid, but will also help improve the condition of the fern.
A simple recipe for nut shell fertilizer
- You need to take two handfuls of walnut shells, throw them into a saucepan, cover them with two liters of water, and boil for 20 minutes.
- Then cool and strain the mixture.
- Before use, this product should be diluted with settled water in a ratio of 1:2.
How often to use nut fertilizer
If the indoor plants do not require too much intervention, you can use this mixture once every two months.
If the leaves turn yellow or wilt, or show other signs of weakness, it is better to increase the frequency of nut fertilization to twice a month.
Which plants can be fed with nut shell fertilizer
The most useful fertilizer will be for all plants with juicy green leaves. These include, for example, monstera, zamioculcas, epipremnum, ivy, or palms. There are no contraindications to using nut fertilizer for orchids, violets, or spathiphyllums.
Fertilizer made from walnut shells is a very effective remedy for fading ferns.
Fertilizer made from walnut water
In the process of baking cakes and various sweets, walnuts are sometimes soaked beforehand, most often in cold water. Florists advise not to pour the water down the sink. It is better to dilute it with water in a 1:1 ratio and water your plants. This is a dose of minerals that will strengthen the flowers.
Other uses for nut shells
Nut shells make an excellent drainage medium for growing plants. Thoroughly peel the nuts and leave the shells in a dry place for several weeks. When transplanting plants in the spring, you should pour a thin layer of organic drainage on the bottom, and then cover it with a substrate.
