Google Chrome will automatically change passwords: what it means
Changing passwords regularly is one of the main conditions for information security, and it's hard to argue with that. However, this procedure is quite complicated and many Internet users try to avoid it.
The developers of Google's Chrome browser decided to help facilitate the timely change of passwords. According to Android Authority, a user under the nickname @Leopeva64 posted evidence on social network X that an experimental password reset feature is currently being tested.
This user found fragments of the relevant code in a bruiser. The feature is not yet publicly available, and there is no exact timeline for its release.
Experts of the publication suggested that password change is likely to work as follows: if the user's password is compromised in some way (hacked due to data leakage, etc.), the browser will automatically offer to change it when logging in to the account. That is, the password change will not take place without the user's knowledge – he or she will have to give his or her consent. After that, the new password will be added to Google Password Manager, meaning that there will be no need to memorize it.
According to the publication, this feature will become part of the artificial intelligence that Google is currently testing. However, these tests are currently at an early stage, so the AI may not work properly and it is too early to launch it for mass use.
Google Chrome already had a similar password reset system, but it was simpler than the one we've proposed. Therefore, it required fewer steps.
Experts rate the innovation in Google Chrome quite highly. Such automatic password changes in case of suspected hacking can significantly increase the security of users on the network.
