The Canadian national ice hockey team, which was considered the main favorite to win the 2024 World Championship, which ended the day before in the Czech Republic, was left without medals. For the first time in the last six editions of the championship, the North Americans took only fourth place in the tournament.

This became clear after the Canadians lost to Sweden in the third-place match. The game was very intriguing. In the first two periods, the rivals exchanged goals and entered the decisive stage of the bronze medal game with the score tied at 1-1.

At the beginning of the third period, the Canadian team that won the 2023 World Cup took the lead. This did not faze the Swedes, who scored twice in four minutes.

Canada tried to save the game by removing the goaltender, but five seconds before the final siren, they ran into an empty-net goal - 4:2. Thus, the Maple Leafs were left without any awards. Before the start of the tournament, the odds on their final victory at the World Cup were 3.75. They were followed by the United States (4.00) and Sweden (4.50).

The championship was won by the Czechs, who defeated Switzerland 2-0 in the final, which is very intriguing.
