Electricity will be cut off even at night: Ukrenergo shows the schedule for December 14
On Saturday, December 14, Ukraine plans to introduce hourly power cuts from 00:00 to 22:00. Despite being a day off, this is much longer than on previous days when the power was not cut off at night. The reason for the tightening of the schedule was the consequences of the Russian shelling of the energy sector.
This was reported by Ukrenergo. It is noted that for household consumers, the time of application and the scope of restrictions will be as follows:
- 00:00 – 13:00 – one round of outages;
- 13:00 – 17:00 – two rounds of outages;
- 17:00 – 22:00 – one turn of outages.
For industry and business, the blackouts will last even longer – around the clock, from 00:00 to 24:00. The restrictions do not apply to critical infrastructure and companies that import more than 60% of electricity for their own needs.
"The reason for the restrictions is the damage to power facilities caused by Russian missile and drone attacks in November and December. Repairs at the power facilities are ongoing," Ukrenergo added.
They also warned that the schedules could change during the day. "Please do not turn on several powerful appliances at the same time when the power comes on according to the schedule," the statement said.
The company advises Ukrainians to find up-to-date information on the schedules of outages in their region on the website or official pages of regional power distribution companies on social networks. You can view your schedule at the following links:
Now, during scheduled power outages, Ukrenergo announces daily how many lines will be cut off simultaneously in each region. This is essentially technical information for regional power distribution companies. However, there is a conditional correlation between the number of blackout queues and the number of hours without electricity:
- 1 queue of schedules means 4 hours of outages per day (out of a total of 24 hours);
- 2 queues – 8 hours of restrictions per day;
- 3 queues – 12 hours without electricity per day;
- 4 queues – up to 16 hours of restrictions per day.
The schedule of power outages will change throughout Ukraine
Soon, all regions of Ukraine will have unified rules for hourly power outage schedules according to a new instruction from the Ministry of Energy. Each outage queue (group) will be divided into two sub-queues, which will allow outages to be carried out at different times even for consumers of the same group.
Ukrenergo has already provided examples of when such outages can be applied. For example, if it is possible to balance the system without disconnecting an entire queue of consumers, the dispatcher can order the disconnection of 0.5 queues. And if two queues are not enough, 2.5 queues can be disconnected.
The new blackout rules include other changes that may come into effect in the new year. Specific schedules have not yet been drawn up, but the key rules are already known.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, on December 13, Ukraine's energy sector came under a new massive attack from the Russian Federation, in particular, DTEK's thermal power plants and other energy facilities in several regions were attacked, and 5 out of 9 nuclear power units had to reduce their capacity. As a result, the blackout schedules have significantly increased.
Some regions were directly affected by Russian attacks. The most difficult situation with the power supply after the shelling was in Odesa. The town of Burshtyn in the Carpathian region was left without heat.
