Earth's inhabitants have the last chance to see the parade of planets, the next time it will appear in 2034: when and how to watch

This week, Earth's inhabitants have the last chance to see a rare parade of planets that will not appear again until 2034. The seven giants of the Solar System – Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune – will line up on Friday, February 28.

It is known that since January 2025, six planets have been visible from the Earth, but Mercury will join the procession for only a few days. And then Saturn will say goodbye to its neighbors in early March, LiveScience writes.

According to astronomers, the parade of planets that will take place on February 28 will be complete, as seven planets will line up in the evening sky from west to east.

However, only five of them will be visible to the naked eye: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. But Uranus and Neptune can only be seen with a telescope, according to NASA.

Where exactly will the planets be located in the sky

"To see all seven planets, you need to start observing immediately after sunset because Saturn and Mercury will soon go over the horizon. For the same reason, it is best to observe the sky, 'moving' from west to east," experts at the Dnipro Planetarium told Suspilne.

"In the western part of the sky, Saturn can be seen low above the horizon, and Mercury will be located a little higher in the sky. The most noticeable object will be Venus, which is called the "evening star" because of its brightness," the sky experts added.

Astronomers advise that you should choose an open area with a good view of the southwestern part of the sky, which will allow you to see Saturn and Mercury before they "run away" beyond the horizon.

However, even residents of large cities will be able to see Venus, Jupiter, and Mars. After all, these celestial bodies will be so bright that even street lighting will not interfere with the observation. Venus will be visible in the sky until 20:00, and Jupiter and Mars will remain in the sky until late at night, experts say.

Interestingly, after February 28, six planets will still be visible for some time after sunset. However, the number of planets visible in the evening sky will gradually decrease, but observers will still be able to enjoy a small parade of planets.

The next full planetary parade will take place in early 2034. Venus and Mercury will be close enough to the Sun, followed by Jupiter, Mars, and Neptune, and then Uranus and Saturn, astronomers say.
