Defeat by Klychko doesn't count: Russia proclaims Povetkin "the best boxer in the world"

Russian promoter Vladimir Khryunov was outraged by the suspension of former world heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin for violating anti-doping rules. The former manager of the Russian Knight ridiculously justified the boxer's use of banned substances in 2016 as a conspiracy against him.

Khryunov said this in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV. The promoter noted that Povetkin was "taken out of the way" 10 years ago, calling him "the best boxer in the world," despite the Russian's crushing defeats by Volodymyr Klychko, Anthony Joshua, and Dillian Whyte.

"He is a very honest and kind person. That's why I don't believe that something like this could have happened ten years ago. He himself had already suffered in his time. At that time, there was a targeted struggle against Povetkin. I have no doubt that he would have defeated a lot of boxers then. But then, in fact, the best boxer in the world was being removed from the road. I urge everyone to support Alexander and not to believe in this latest provocation," Khryunov said.

Earlier, Povetkin used the words "our fighter" to attribute Alexander Usyk's success in the professional ring to Russia.
