What is chronic fatigue?
Fatigue can be divided into three main categories: psychological, physical, and lifestyle-related. Science identifies several common causes of fatigue:
- Insufficient sleep or difficulty falling asleep (insomnia).
- Unhealthy lifestyle (poor diet and lack of physical activity).
- Stress, depression, and coping with life's difficulties.
- Hormonal changes (for example, during puberty, pregnancy, or menopause).
- Poor physical condition, chronic diseases.
- Certain medical procedures and medications that cause drowsiness.
What to do if fatigue does not go away for a long time?
If you feel tired for too long and cannot understand why, this is a reason to consult a doctor for advice. This condition can be caused by serious illnesses such as anemia, diabetes, thyroid hyperfunction (hyperthyroidism), myalgic encephalomyelitis, or chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS).
How to get rid of chronic fatigue on your own?
Of course, all of these diseases are real, but it is far from certain that any of them is the cause of your problems. Therefore, if you have just felt the first signs of fatigue that do not go away, do not panic.
The right decision in this situation is to make some changes to your agenda. What should you pay attention to first?
- A healthy diet and regular exercise.
- Stable sleep patterns – from 6 to 9 hours.
- Quitting bad habits – smoking, overeating, alcohol, caffeine.
It would also be wise to stop using smartphones and other electronic devices an hour before bedtime.
