Chocolate, wine and even blood: how to clean any stain from the carpet
Whatever you drop out of your hands will eventually end up on the floor. This is the reason why carpets are so often stained and cause a lot of problems during cleaning.
At the same time, each type of stain requires its own means and approach. OBOZ.UA has collected the most effective methods for dealing with all the most common types of dirt.
The universal method
For the most part, carpet stains are caused by a variety of liquid substances. To deal with them, you should start by collecting as much liquid as possible. Therefore, blot the stained area with a clean paper or cloth towel. Do not rub the stain, as this can cause it to spread.
Next, add a little cold water to the problem area to dilute the stain, and then blot again. Mix half a cup of white vinegar and the same amount of warm water, and add 1-2 drops of dishwashing detergent to the mixture. Apply this cleaning solution to the stain and then blot again. Finally, rinse the area with cold water and collect as much liquid as possible. Let the carpet air dry. This is often enough.
Pet stains
Pets can leave traces of their activity on the carpet, which can be quite persistent. Start by picking up any solid particles, if any, and blotting up any liquids that may be present. You can also sprinkle baking soda on the stained area to absorb anything that the towel didn't manage. Vacuum up the baking soda, rinse the area with cold water, and pat dry. Treat the stain with an enzyme product that will break down the visible stain, remove the odor, and collect the residue. Allow the cleaned area to air dry completely.
Chocolate
When cleaning chocolate stains, the main thing to remember is that you should never rub it into the carpet. Start by gently scraping off the chocolate with a spoon or the blunt side of a knife and remove any hard pieces. After that, blot the stain with cold water to prevent the chocolate from hardening and penetrating deep into the pile. Spray the stain with a mixture of dishwashing detergent, vinegar, and water and blot. Repeat until the trace of chocolate disappears. Then apply some cold water and blot dry.
Wine
Methods for dealing with wine stains on carpet range from baking soda and salt to hydrogen peroxide and laundry detergent. Experts say that cold sparkling mineral water is the most effective. Start by collecting as much liquid as possible, then pour the drink over the stain and blot again. Repeat this process until the stain disappears. If the stain is stubborn, mix a tablespoon of dishwashing detergent and a little white vinegar with two cups of water, then apply the mixture to the stain and collect the liquid. Repeat until the stain is completely gone.
Blood
The main principle of removing blood stains is to wash them off with cold water. Soak the stained area for a few minutes and then collect all the liquid you can. You can also put an ice cube on the stain to help clot blood proteins faster and prevent them from penetrating deeper into the fibers. The next step is to treat the stain with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Leave it on for a few minutes and reassemble it. Rinse the stain with cold water, repeat the procedure if necessary, until it disappears. Let the carpet air dry completely.
Coffee
Coffee stains can be easily removed with a solution of two cups of warm water and a teaspoon or tablespoon of dishwashing detergent. You can also add a tablespoon of vinegar to the solution for effectiveness. Collect all traces of the beverage, apply the solution to the stain, press it well to get the cleaning liquid into the fibers as deeply as possible, but do not rub, and then collect the residue. Repeat until the stain is gone. Finally, rinse the stain with cold water, blot up all the liquid, and let the carpet air dry.
