Whether you're looking for a warm place to relax in the winter or want to work remotely from a beautiful location, Portugal is the place to be. One of its charming cities offers an incredible atmosphere with pastel-colored houses and picturesque villages around.

According to Travel of Path, you can get all this and low prices for accommodation in the city of Coimbra, located in central Portugal. It is a coastal city with a mild climate. In winter, it is about +17 degrees during the day and +10 degrees at night. In addition, you get a huge historical heritage with many medieval monuments.

Coimbra is also famous as an ancient educational center. The University of Coimbra was founded in the XIII century. It is the oldest in Portugal and one of the most prestigious in Europe.

The historic center is one of the best places to socialize with locals and expats alike, as it is full of unusual bars. Coimbra is home to more than 106,000 people, a significant portion of whom are foreigners.

This friendly city is located on the banks of the Mondego River, the longest river that is entirely within the national territory of Portugal. The old town seems to have been specially built for picturesque photographs and postcards, and its streets are covered with calçada portuguesa – a patterned Portuguese sidewalk. You will be surrounded by richly decorated churches and medieval palaces.

Don't overlook the 12th-century Romanesque cathedral of Se Vella (Coimbra Cathedral) and the historically important Church of the Holy Cross. The first two kings of Portugal are buried here, and its Baroque organ is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful you'll ever see.

An order of pastel de chaves (traditional veal crescent-shaped pastries) and orange juice at the bakery will cost you about $4, if not less. A main course in an inexpensive restaurant frequented by locals will cost an average of $10.43.

Renting is also relatively affordable in Coimbra, especially outside the city center, where a one-bedroom apartment can cost as little as $565 per month if you are officially resident in Portugal. You can rent a room for a short or medium term on Airbnb from $633 per month.
