In 2014, Christopher Nolan's Interstellar renewed people's interest in science fiction films. The story of an astronaut on his way to find a new home for humanity has attracted the attention of millions of viewers around the world. However, few of them know that in the 90s there was a movie called Contact that literally paved the way for all modern science fiction films.

Since then, it has become cult. However, it still seems underrated, especially considering the fact that fans compare it to Nolan's masterpiece. Robert Zemeckis' film Contact is based on Carl Sagan's 1985 novel, Starte Facts writes.

The plot revolves around Dr. Ellie Arroway, a SETI employee who has dedicated her life to the search for extraterrestrial life. After eventually finding evidence of it, she faced skepticism from other scientists, politicians, and the media, but it was time to move on.

On the way to contacting aliens, she is forced to fight a number of hostile forces, including religious activists. However, she falls in love with one of them, and their romance becomes another obstacle to the realization of her dream.

The film seems unique in that it looks at both faith and science and how they can be combined in the human quest for scientific advancement, particularly space exploration. As such, it presents a serious philosophical aspect that can make you think about it long after the movie is over.

The acting here adds depth to the film as the leading cast here brings together the accomplished Jodie Foster as the brave Dr. Arroway and Interstellar star Matthew McConaughey as the passionate Christian philosopher.

Back in 1997, it was a real breakthrough in the history of science fiction, and the timeless issues it highlights make it a must-see for every modern moviegoer.
