Almost half of foreign students in Poland are Ukrainians

At the end of the last academic year, 45 thousand Ukrainian citizens were studying at Polish universities. This amounted to almost 45% of the total number of foreign students.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland, Ukrinform reports. They noted that Ukrainian students can study for free in Polish. In addition, they can apply for a social scholarship and a study loan on the basis of a declaration of family and financial status.

"The number of Ukrainian citizens admitted to study in the 2023/2024 academic year was 19.9 thousand. Of these, 11.9 thousand studied at private universities, 7.8 thousand at state universities, and 0.2 thousand at church universities," the report says.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, a total of 102.7 thousand foreign students studied at Polish universities.

As a reminder, about 40,000 Ukrainian children went to Polish schools in the new school year. Despite the fact that schoolchildren have been required to attend offline classes since September 1, their number is half as many as the Ministry of Education of Poland had predicted. Ukrainian schoolchildren can continue online learning at their school only if they are enrolled in the graduating class and have to take the National Multisubject Test.
