Near the Ukrainian Antarctic station Akademik Vernadsky on Galindez Island, the season of birth of baby penguins is in full swing. About a thousand of them have already been born, and the number of chicks will increase.

The Ukrainian polar explorers showed the little penguins together with their parents. They also told how adult penguins take care of their babies.

On the Galindez Island of the Argentine Islands archipelago, where the Ukrainian Antarctic research station is located, the period of birth of baby penguins continues.

"About a thousand of them have already been born on our Galindez Island. Some of the nests still have eggs in them, so the number of chicks will grow. But most families already have two chicks," the report says.

Since the chicks did not hatch at the same time, the penguins are now striking in their appearance.

"They are very different now: some have just hatched, and some are already big and almost the size of their parents," said Svitozar Davydenko, a biologist with the 29th UAE.

Ukrainian polar explorers also showed on video how adult penguins feed their chicks.

"After the chick asks to eat, the adult penguin "delivers" partially digested food (primarily krill) from the esophagus to the beak, and the chick enjoys it from there," the scientists described the feeding process.

The polar explorers also reminded that Galindega is home to mostly sub-Antarctic penguins.

It should be reminded that the first new offspring of sub-Antarctic penguins on Galindega became known about a month ago. On December 18, Ukrainian polar explorers said that about a dozen penguin chicks had hatched near the Akademik Vernadsky station in Antarctica.
