A video showing the Pacific Ocean "meeting" the North Sea has gone viral and outraged scientists
A video showing the point where the ocean and the sea "meet" was posted online. The video quickly went viral, garnering 20 million views on social media.
The author of the video quite seriously claimed that the Pacific Ocean and the North Sea "meet, but do not mix". Researchers are grabbing their heads at this ridiculous statement, Gizmodo reports.
After all, the Pacific Ocean and the North Sea cannot intersect in principle. The map clearly shows that the North Sea washes the shores of England, Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands. The closest ocean to it is the Atlantic, but it cannot intersect with the Pacific due to its geographical location.
But that's not the only reason why scientists are unhappy with the video's rapid rise in popularity.
"No one can explain why the oceans meet and never mix," wrote the user who posted the viral video online.
This is not the first time such videos have appeared online. They usually show places where salt and fresh water meet: it seems that a certain line separates them. Such content can be misleading when a wide river flows into the ocean. People think that it is an open space, but in fact the explanation is very simple.
If you ask any oceanographer, they will tell you that the oceans actually "mix". The popular statement on social media that this is allegedly prevented by the different content of iron and clay is not true.
However, users continue to believe that it is possible to draw a line of the exact beginning and end of the oceans. The authors of this idea insist that science does not understand why "the oceans do not mix."
"This is the Gulf of Alaska, where two oceans meet, but do not mix. Tell me that there is no God, and I will ask you: 'Who told the mighty waves that they could not go further than here'! What an absolutely amazing God is...," reads the viral post from Facebook.
