A unique prehistoric mound with graves was discovered in the Czech Republic: archaeologists showed photos
Archaeologists have found a unique funerary structure with graves in Eastern Bohemia. It is believed to be the longest prehistoric mound in Europe.
Scientists first discovered the "elongated trapezoidal chute" during road works. The mound, found on the route of the future highway near the village of Dohalice, is about 190 meters long and has a maximum width of 15 meters, Arkeonews reports.

"The found elongated trapezoidal chute is a typical structure for an ancient mound known as a long barrow. The length of this chute, as well as the mound as a whole, is 190 meters, making it one of the longest monuments of its kind in all of Central Europe," the Department of Archaeology at the University of Hradec Králové posted on Facebook.
The mounds date back to the Eneolithic period, the culture of funnel-shaped glasses (3800-3350 BC), and it was during this period that burial complexes, of which the mounds are a part, first appeared in this area. Therefore, according to preliminary estimates, the graves and the mound are at least 5300 years old. However, a more accurate age of the unique find will be established after laboratory analysis.
The scientists also found valuable historical artifacts near the graves.

The archaeologists also managed to excavate the entrance to the mound, which has been preserved in the form of a pit and a gutter. Most importantly, however, they discovered two central burials that contained the people for whom such a giant mound was probably built, as well as 28 additional burials.
"The first central burial is a grave with an internal pit structure consisting of gutters on the long sides and holes for pillars in the corners. The body lies on its left side, facing north. The second central grave had no internal structure, and the body was also lying on its left side," the archaeologists describe the discovery.
Skeletons and stolen objects were found in the central graves.

Several objects were found near the central graves. In one grave, fragments of ceramics were found, in another - four flint arrowheads and a flint blade.
