Following the recent analysis of tissue from the Shroud of Turin that determined the age of the Christian relic, a new study of blood from the holy cloth has emerged. An Italian scientist decided to use modern technology to analyze samples taken from the cloth in the 1970s.

The study of the Holy Shroud, in which Christ's body was probably wrapped after death, found tiny particles of blood with signs of organ failure, trauma, disease and radiation. All of these elements support the biblical story of Jesus' crucifixion, DailyMail writes.

It wasn't until 1978 that the first physical samples from the Shroud of Turin were allowed to be taken. But the results of the analyses at that time were inconclusive as to whether or not there was blood in the samples.

Giulio Fanti, a professor at the University of Padua in Italy, placed these samples under state-of-the-art microscopes capable of picking out details down to the size of individual particles. Re-analyzed particles showed the presence of hemoglobin, a key component of blood, as well as two different types of blood, which Fanti labeled as type A and type B.

According to the Italian professor, this indicates that the tissue was on a person with bloody injuries and not tampered with with dye or other methods.

The savannah sample also showed traces of creatine, which enters the bloodstream when a person experiences muscle breakdown or some kind of trauma. Scientists note that the human body produces creatine from amino acids in the liver, kidneys and pancreas. It is also found in food products. The body releases the chemical into the bloodstream when brain, heart or skeletal muscle cells are damaged.

"The high percentage of creatinine found in the samples can be explained, especially during Jesus' last hour before his death on the cross, by a decrease in blood flow to the kidneys, also caused by hypovolemia and severe dehydration," Giulio Fanti noted.

The scientist claims that his findings are consistent with the words of John 19:28, which says, "Jesus said, 'I am thirsty'."

Blood samples from the Shroud also contain indications that the man wrapped in the shroud was suffering from uremic syndrome, which occurs when the kidneys are unable to excrete waste products. While the condition is usually caused by kidney disease, it can also be caused by blunt trauma to the organ, which Fanti believes may have occurred when Jesus was beaten with a whip.

The Gospel of John 12:1 says, "Then Pilate took Jesus and ordered him to be scourged."

"I have labeled the group A blood as having come out of a corpse, and therefore as postmortem blood. It consists of microcytes indicative of Jesus' respiratory suffering on the cross," the study said.

According to Fanti, the blood particles, which he called "type B," are mostly darker in color than "type A" blood and have sharper edges. The scientist says this means that Type B originated before Jesus' death, these differences are related to the blood's clotting characteristics.

"Type B consists of coagulated blood crusts that probably formed when Jesus was on the cross or ascended Calvary," the researcher said.

Both types of blood have traces of earthy materials that Fanti says are commonly found in Jerusalem, such as clay and limestone, indicating that the Shroud is from the region.

"When I went to Jerusalem to analyze the earth material taken from the Holy Shroud, geologist Amir Sendler of the Geological Survey of Jerusalem recognized about elements typical of Jerusalem soil," Giulio Fanti noted.

The researchers believe that Jesus' body was not washed at this time, but quickly laid in the tomb. That is, it bore the marks of the ground on which he walked and on which he fell when ascending Golgotha.

Interestingly, the blood from the Shroud showed evidence of possible radiation in various forms. Type A blood contained beta particles, which are electrons of high kinetic energy emitted by certain radioactive nuclei, such as potassium-40, used in explosives and fireworks. And in type B blood were found photon radiation particles, also known as gamma rays, usually produced by a nuclear reaction.

Scientists cannot explain where in the blood these radioactive elements came from. However, Christians claim that these shapes and imprints on the Shroud were created by the energy that came out of Christ's body at the moment of resurrection.
