A movie with a happy ending about Russian dictator Putin was shown in Cannes: he dies in the finale
Polish filmmaker Patryck Vega has created a movie using artificial intelligence, with Russian dictator Putin as the main character. The director presented his film at the Cannes Film Festival.
Interestingly, the movie ends with a happy ending – the Russian leader dies. Vega wrote about this on his Instagram page.
According to France24, the film has been acquired by distributors from 50 countries, and the premiere is scheduled for September 2024. The plot of the film revolves around Putin's life over six decades. The story begins when the future politician was 10 years old: the boy suffers from violence from his stepfather.
The idea was born in the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, says Vega. According to the director, he initially wanted to make a movie about the Russian mafia, but later decided to tell "about the biggest gangster." When asked by journalists whether the Pole was afraid of threats and reprisals from the dictator, Vega said that "Putin should be afraid of him."
According to Variety, the film presents the politician as a ruthless thug, but at the same time, he is a frightened old man. The director believes that his main mission is to debunk the image of the dictator and "reduce the pervasive fear and uncertainty that define our time." The movie's budget amounted to 14 million dollars.
