Famous athlete makes a statement
Russian racing driver Nikita Mazepin has ended his career in Formula 1 racing. The 25-year-old Muscovite lost his place at Haas after the team decided to terminate his contract unilaterally.
During his time in F1, Nikita spent one season in the series in 2021, failed to earn a single point, and finished last in the overall standings. Mazepin's teammate Mick Schumacher also failed to earn a single point but finished higher in the additional indicators.
Mazepin Jr. was included in the EU sanctions lists immediately after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which led to the freezing of his assets in the EU and a ban on entry to its territory. The sanctions were lifted by the EU court in Luxembourg in March 2024.
On his social media account, the son of the famous Russian oligarch and founder of the "Uralchem" group Dmitry Mazepin admitted that he has no intention of returning to big sports.
"It's time to write a new act of my life as an adult, and where my dreams will no longer be about speed and trophies. Namely, completion of education, hard work, and taking care of my spiritual and psychological state," the young pilot said.
Russian fans ridiculed Mazepin's words.
"Thank you for everything, legend," "A great loss for all motorsport," users mocked.
