Ukrainians should prepare themselves at the household level for blackouts not only in summer but also in winter. The possibility of planned outages cannot be ruled out even with the current plans to restore generation, not to mention new shelling by Russia.

This was stated by Volodymyr Kudrytsky, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo, on Suspilne TV channel. He reminded that electricity consumption increases in winter.

"This winter may be difficult, because consumption naturally increases in winter. And even with the plans to restore generation that are in place today, it is likely that we will not be able to completely eliminate the possibility of planned outages," said the company's CEO.

He emphasized that it would take months and years to restore the plants damaged by Russian shelling. Therefore, no "rapid increase in generation" is expected, and citizens should learn to live with scheduled blackouts. He noted that blackouts are not currently planned, but controlled outages will take place to maintain the integrity of the system.

Earlier, Kudrytsky noted that warming would soon improve the situation with electricity consumption in Ukraine, but would not restore the damaged capacities of Ukrainian power plants. However, after the expected increase in air temperature, it will probably be possible to avoid blackouts.

At the same time, given the scheduled repairs at generation facilities and the use of air conditioners by the population, the deficit in the power system may become critical again.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

- On May 21, the chairman of the board of NPC Ukrenergo said that blackout schedules in the evening were introduced in the regions because warming had somewhat reduced, but not completely compensated for, the significant deficit in the Ukrainian power system.

- Ukrenergo said that on May 22, the hourly blackout schedules will be in effect for everyone from 00:00 to 07:00 and from 18:00 to 24:00. The power supply to critical infrastructure facilities that provide life support to the population will not be limited.
