On Friday, December 8, subway trains between "Demiivska" and  "Teremky" stations in Kyiv were suspended. The tunnel was depressurized and water is flowing along the track. Duplicate ground transportation routes have been organized.

Repair work will last about six months. This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration.

"Subway train traffic on the section between Teremky and Demiivska stations has already been suspended for safety reasons and due to the technical condition of the tunnels. Trains are running between Heroiv Dnipra and Lybidska stations. Duplicate ground transportation routes will be launched in about two hours," the statement said.

According to Kyiv City Council member Ksenia Semenova, the problem has been observed for about a week and is getting worse.

"The sealing of the tunnel has been broken, and now there is significant flooding on the rail and structural steel grating - literally a stream of water with sand, which is an abrasive and will further damage the weak points of the tunnel's finish during large volumes of filtration. The water level is now up to the soles of the rails and higher," Semenova added.

In addition, due to the closure of the station, passengers are literally "storming" the city's ground transportation, trying to get to their places of business.

According to the Kyiv City State Administration, ground transportation will run from "Teremky" to "Lybidska", duplicating the routes of the closed stations of the blue line:

  • Temporary bus route #2m "Cybernetic Center" - "Teremky" metro station - "Lybidska" metro station". It will run 60 buses with a frequency of 1 minute;
  • Temporary trolleybus route No. 43k "Cybernetic Center - "Lybidska" metro station". There will be 20 trolleybuses with an interval of 3 minutes;
  • Bus route No. 38 will be extended to the "Lybidska" metro station. There will be 5 buses with an interval of 17 minutes.

The Kyiv City State Administration added that the movement of trolleybus No. 50 "Myloslavska Street - "Lybidska" metro station" is temporarily suspended. The number of rolling stock is being increased on the trolleybus route No. 50k "Myloslavska Street - Darnytska Square". There will be 10 trolleybuses with an interval of 9 minutes. The increased operation of this route will partially reorient passenger traffic from the Obolonsko-Teremkivska line to the Sviatoshynsko-Brovarska line.

We would like to add that the distillation tunnels between "Demiivska" and "Lybidska" stations were constructed in the floodplain of the Lybid River in 2008-2010 by underground construction in difficult mining and geological conditions, after artificial water lowering.

As reported earlier, the Standing Committee on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies decided to close traffic on one of the sections of the blue line of the metro. Restrictions on the "Teremky"-"Demiivska" section are introduced  due to the need to urgently repair the overhead tunnel between the stations.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on Saturday, December 2, a fire broke out  in the Oasis shopping center in Obolon district of Kyiv, where the entrance and exit from the "Heroiv Dnipra" metro station are located. The fire occurred in the solarium.
