Nowadays, when the concept of a happy life is becoming more and more relevant, the topic of longevity and mental and physical health is gaining popularity. It turns out that in order to enjoy life to the fullest, you should first of all choose yourself and your aspirations. In this way, you can preserve the infamous nerve cells that do not regenerate and enjoy a long and happy life.

According to 102-year-old doctor Gladys McGarey on CNBS, the biggest problem of modern people is too much unnecessary stress. Most of it manifests itself in situations that are not worth worrying about at all. Because a person cannot let go of it, the shameful event keeps replaying in their minds over and over again, even when others have long forgotten about it.

It often happens that when you try to put something unpleasant out of your mind, it comes back again and again and seems as if it is not going to leave your mind. McGarey advises doing a special exercise to help you cope with this.

"My mom taught me an easy way to let go of things that don't matter. She would gently raise her hand in front of her, hold her fingers loosely, palm up, and then clench them into a fist. Then she would put it down and say: "It doesn't matter." I did this practice for years. I recognized something that did not serve me and waved my hand, gently opening my fingers to show release from the unnecessary," the woman shared her life hack.

How to practice letting go

The best way to do this is to move. Upbeat music, dancing, and an active walk are all necessary for the brain to learn to switch and relax. Gladys McGarey will share three tips:

1. Identify what is stuck in your head

It can be anything that has been bothering you lately: career issues, relationships, resentments, etc. You should feel that this problem is stuck in every part of your body.

2. Imagine that the problem is already in your fist

Feel it flowing from your whole body into your palm. Squeeze it.

3. Let it go

This is where the previously mentioned life hack comes in handy. As you open your fingers, you should feel the stress disappear and life return to your body.

Move on

It is normal to feel stress and sadness. According to the doctor, it is important to forgive yourself and not dwell on the troubles, but try to move on.

"If you notice that you are living with regrets, try to catch them. Was everything mostly good? If so, be grateful! Is there anything funny about it? If so, laugh! Have you learned something new since then? If so, enjoy what you know now and declare it as much as you can!" the woman explained.
