8-year-old girl drowns in Hilton hotel pool: child got sucked into pipe

An 8-year-old girl was found dead in a 6-meter-long pool pipe at the Hilton Hotel

While vacationing in Houston, USA, 8-year-old Aliya Jaiko drowned in a swimming pool at a hotel of the popular Hilton chain. The girl was sucked into a 6-meter-long pipe, and it took 13 hours to find her. According to the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office, she died of "drowning and mechanical asphyxiation" as a result of the accident.

Many irregularities were found in the pool, and the pipe was malfunctioning. To find the child, almost all the water had to be drained, and only then was it possible to look into the hole. According to the Mirror, the examination revealed that the pool pumps were malfunctioning: one was supposed to push water out and the other to suck it in. Instead, the pipe from which the water was supposed to come out pulled the frail girl with it.

"The document for the main drainage was provided and is still valid. However, the small pool has 32-inch [81 cm] drainage channels on the walls, without a valid document stating their purpose and date of installation. A full inspection was conducted and numerous violations were found. There is video footage, but the manager said that the footage is being reviewed by lawyers and we will have to wait to receive a copy," the Houston Health Department said.

As we have already mentioned, the search lasted 13 hours, during which time the staff refused to check the relevant pipes. Later, it became clear from watching the surveillance footage that the child never left the pool while swimming.

Aliyah's mother, Daniela Jaiko, posted a photo of her daughter on Facebook, captioning it "Our last photo" and a heartbreaking farewell message.

"They say that we all have a destiny... but I can't understand why yours was so different... Thank you, my dear, for the 8 years you gave me with you. Thank you, my girl, for teaching me what love and a noble heart are... I still don't accept that you will be gone, I don't have to pretend. I hope that someday I will see you again, and you will continue to look at me, and you will smile broadly with contagious joy. You always gave yourself to love with such a noble heart. I will love you for all eternity. You are the most beautiful thing that God has given me, and after every battle we have fought together, we have not won this one," the heartbroken mother wrote.
